For Ossé, he chose to focus this year's participatory budget theme to focus on any initiative that reduces violence, especially gun violence.
And to the new Council Member, the participatory budget process is one of "the most democratic programs that exists in New York City," he told Patch.

“It allows everyone, 12 years old and up, to vote on how to spend 1 million public tax dollars in their own neighborhoods," Ossé said.
"This is an opportunity to get involved and it’s an opportunity to cement the truth that no one knows what you need better than you do.”
On Monday, October 17th, another session at 6-7 p.m. will be held at Collective Focus, 1046 Broadway.
A final session will be held at the Brooklyn Children's Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave., also from 6-7 p.m.
