Drunk Brooklyn Mom Crashes With 4 Kids in Car: DA

Rishma Sookdial, 36, had a blood alcohol content of .253 when she crashed, according to the DA.

Rishma Sookdial, a 36-year-old mom of four who lives on Elderts Lane in east Brooklyn, crashed her Honda SUV into a garbage truck while drunk driving in Queens early Thursday morning, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

All four of Sookdial’s kids were inside the SUV at the time, the DA said.

Sookdial allegedly blew a .253 during a Breathalyzer test at the scene — nearly five times the legal limit for driving.

According to a report from the DA’s Office, the mom of four “had bloodshot and watery eyes and police detected a heavy odor of alcohol on her breath.”

“The defendant’s speech was slightly slurred and she swayed back and forth while standing, according to the criminal charges,” the report said. “She allegedly told police that she was on her way home after having one drink at a friend’s house.”

Early Thursday morning, police found Sookdial’s crumpled Honda on 76th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Woodhaven, Queens. It had smashed into the back end of a garbage truck.

Via the DA’s report:

“The Honda’s front windshield was cracked and there was extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. The defendant’s 11-year-old son, whose leg was broken in the crash, was trapped inside and had to be extricated from the SUV by the New York City Fire Department. The defendant’s nine-year-old son complained of pain in his abdomen. The defendant’s five-year-old son suffered a laceration and bruise above his eye and her 18-month-old daughter’s lip was bleeding.”

All four children were treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Their mother has been charged with driving while under the influence and endangering the welfare of her children, according to the DA.

She faces four years in prison if convicted of the crimes.
