Elderly Subway Rider Attacked by Teens at Bed-Stuy Stop: NYPD

A 78-year-old woman was punched and kicked in the face, head and body following a verbal disagreement, police said.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A 78-year-old woman was assaulted by two teenage girls (pictured above) on Thursday at the C train's Franklin Avenue stop in Bed-Stuy, police said.

One suspect believed to be connected to the attack was in custody Friday morning, according to an NYPD spokesman.

According to police, the woman boarded the Franklin Avenue shuttle at the Prospect Park stop shortly before 2:30 p.m. The teens, between 15 and 17 years old, were also on the train.

The woman wanted to sit down , and asked one of the girls to move her feet off a seat, police said. But the girls cursed at her, leading to a verbal disagreement.

When the woman exited the train at Franklin Avenue, police said, the teens followed her onto the southbound platform and attacked her.

According to the NYPD, the woman was punched and kicked multiple times in the face, head and body.

The teens then fled the scene on a southbound train, police said.

The woman was taken to Methodist Hospital in stable condition, according to the NYPD.

Detectives describe the teens as Hispanic women, each standing about five-feet-six inches in height.

The first was last seen wearing a light blue dress shirt over a dark t-shirt, white sneakers, and white jeans.

The second was last seen wearing black sneakers, black sweatpants, and a white t-shirt.

This alleged crime took place in the NYPD's 79th Precinct. According to official police statistics, through May 29, major crimes were collectively down nearly 9 percent in the 79th compared to the same time period last year.
