Five-Borough 'Small Business Week' Celebration To Kick Off In Bed-Stuy

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A week-long tour of the five boroughs in honor of National Small Business Week is set to kick off in Bed-Stuy, according to city officials.

The city's Small Business Services mobile resource van will travel to a new borough each day next week to help encourage New Yorkers to shop local and to offer their long-list of resources to business owners.

First up on the tour will be Bed-Stuy's Marcy Plaza on Monday.

The week-long celebration of National Small Business Week — which extends from May 2 to May 5 — is set up to recognize the city's ethnically diverse neighborhoods and immigrant-owned businesses, officials said.

Resources will include business mentorship, financial and legal assistance and employment opportunities, all of which will be offered in a variety of languages. The events will also include entertainment, giveaways and speakers.

A Shop Your City campaign will encourage New Yorkers to shop local.

Here's a look at the Bed-Stuy program:

WHEN: 2-4 p.m. on Monday, May 2; speakers will begin at 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: Marcy Plaza, found on the corner of Marcy Avenue and Fulton Street

WHO: Bridge Street Development Corporation, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Bed-Stuy Gateway BID, SBS and other city agencies.
