BED-STUY, NY — A long-closed Food Bazaar was set to return to Bed-Stuy this week with discounts and new meat, fish and deli counters.

The supermarket was scheduled to reopen Thursday on Myrtle Avenue between Lewis Avenue and Broadway — its original location closed two years ago for redevelopment as an 11-story apartment building, according to Bklyner.

Some things will be different this time, like a new meat counter with a butcher, bakery and a seafood counter with whole fish, live lobster, crab legs and full service, according to a supermarket representative.

Local seniors and firefighters will shop with discounts, along with supermarket employees.

"We are truly excited to see our store come to life once again in a community we have had the privilege of serving for so many years," said Edward Suh, Executive Vice President for Food Bazaar. "We eagerly anticipate welcoming back our loyal shoppers to a beautiful facility that now offers expanded services."

The launch on Thursday will also include activities for locals, treats and gifts for early shoppers and samples throughout the store.

The Bed-Stuy return marks Brooklyn's ninth Food Bazaar. In Crown Heights, a 33,000-square-foot Lidl supermarket was set to open by the end of 2024.

The supermarket's closure worried locals at the time, taking away a massive affordable and accessible food option, Brooklyn Paper reported.
