What: Unity Festival Block Party
When/Where: Saturday, May 14, from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Franklin Avenue between Clifton Place and Green Avenue
Why Go: The celebration's purpose is to keep the unity of this community growing! The events will feature many dazzling musical performances, a variety of kid-friendly events including a Kiddie Bouncer, Petting zoo and, other games for the children. There will also be local vendors showcasing their art, barbeque/food to share, an exquisite hair-fashion show (produced by Sabines’ Hallway), a UNITY WALL capturing the spirit of togetherness for all to sign, community garden activities promoting a green environment and speakers presenting on healthy living.

What: The First Annual “Flower Bed-Stuy Day”
When/Where: The pick-up for the plants will be this Saturday at 10:00 a.m., at 625 Quincy Street.
Why Go: Flower Bed-Stuy Day and is aiming to bring the community together through a series of beautification projects. Each block association will receive two flats of plants, or 80 in total, which local homeowners will plant themselves. Nearly 40 community block and tenant associations have signed on to participate in Flower Bed-Stuy Day, and that the possibility of an even broader impact is likely. “We’re trying to help unite our neighborhood,” said Rhonda Lewis, CEO of Bridge Street Development Corporation. “This is a great way for people to invest in the community and develop a sense of pride for it, and hopefully become a springboard to address bigger issues like crime and safety.”

What: Jazz Crooner José James Headlines Eco-Soul Concert
When/Where: Sunday, May 15 at 3:00 pm, TheWeeksville Heritage Center, 1698 Bergen Street between Buffalo Avenue and Rochester Avenue, Brooklyn
Why Go: Weeksville, presents critically acclaimed vocalist José James for its annual “Eco-Soul” concert.The Brooklyn-based, half-Irish and half-Panamanian singer has been described as a soulful cross between Johnny Hartman, Gil Scott Heron and Terry Callier.
Opening for James will be Amy LaCour and Saunders Sermons. The event is part of Weeksville’s “Eco-Soul” concert celebrating jazz in Brooklyn in conjunction with the 12th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival. It will kick off months of spring and summer activities including a farmers market featuring fresh organic, locally farmed produce at affordable prices, a Garden Party summer concert series and a Family Day festival.

What: The 11th Annual SONYA Studio Stroll
When/Where: Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15 (South of the Navy Yard Artists) and their free Studio Stroll that is happening up and down Fulton Street in Fort Greene.
Why Go: The 11th Annual SONYA Studio Sroll is a wonderful opportunity to experience the creative talent that is abundant in Brooklyn's neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Wallabout and Bedford-Stuyvesant. NOTE: 10 SONYA artist exhibit locations are located on—or just off—Fulton Street this year.
