Get Out: An Artist Studio Strut, Breast Cancer Walk and It's My Park Day!

Another pleasant weather weekend has been promised to us New Yorkers. Let's make the most of it and get outdoors!

WHEN/ WHERE: Saturday, October 15, from 11:00am – 4:00pm (rain or shine), Starting point at Brooklyn Academy High School, 832 Marcy Avenue at the Putnam Avenue entrance.

WHY GO: What better way to get a feel of the neighborhood and learn the architectural history of the properties than through a guided tour? The tour will be an interactive and fun way to get a quick history lesson on Bedford-Stuyvesant -- one of the oldest settlement communities in Brooklyn.

WHAT: The 14th Annual Reel Sisters Film Festival and Lecture Series

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 15 – Sunday, October 16, at the Kumble Theater on LIU’s Brooklyn Campus

WHY GO: This year’s festival will screen more than 25 films – a diverse selection of narratives, documentaries and shorts – directed, produced or written by women of color from across the globe. The theme of the this year’s festival is, “From Cleopatra Jones, to First Lady Michelle Obama: Exploring Feminism in Film & Media.”

WHAT: It's My Park Day!

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 15, from 9:00am – 1:00pm at Von King Park

WHY GO: The Von King Park Revitalization Committee is trying to clean up and beautify Bed-Stuy’s largest and one of the city’s oldest parks! Please join; it needs the entire community involved. Bring the kids! The group’s mission is to revitalize garden beds: weeding, adding more plants and mulch. Clean-up and spruce up children's playground: weeding between mats and painting playground equipment and benches. They will be planting daffodils and doing general cleanup on this day.

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, October 16, Registration begins at 8:00am in Central Park

WHY GO: is calling all men in Bed-Stuy and surrounding neighborhoods to join them on Saturday, October 16, for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walkathon in Central Park. For more information on how you can get involved, visit their website.
