WHAT: DJ Spinna's "Soul Train" Tribute & Dance Party

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, August 10, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Putnam Triangle Plaza, Fulton St at Grand Ave

WHY GO: This performance is part of FAB Fridays, the monthly event featuring free live performances and activities along Fulton Street in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. Plus, Vered performs a free concert for kids.

WHAT: Celebrate Brooklyn Presents LITTLE DRAGON / FRANKIE ROSE / VOICES OF BLACK

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, August 10, 7:30 p.m., Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West and 9th Street

WHY GO: The Swedish electro-soul outfit LITTLE DRAGON, fronted by the enchanting vocalist Yukimi Nagano, plays “richly textured and highly vibe-y electronic music that could soundtrack both the dance party and the chill-out room.” (Rolling Stone) With Brooklyn indie scene vet FRANKIE ROSE (ex Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, and Dum Dum Girls), whose sophomore solo effort  Interstellar is “a big, second-album leap of faith into deeper waters, a sparkling synth-pop record,” (Pitchfork) and special guest DJ’s VOICES OF BLACK.

WHAT: Noir Music Series & YRB Magazine present CITY KINGS: Bad Boy vs Roc-A-Fella

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 12, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Dekalb Market, on Flatbush and Willoughby Avenues

WHY GO: “This is a celebration of music from two labels who changed the musical, cultural and fashion landscapes of NYC and the world,” said Jorgito Grierson, event curator. “Many folks forget that these two record giants made hits and classics created by artists NOT named Biggie Smalls & Jay Z.” Keeping the party moving will be DJ CEO (Influence Series/Off The Wall) and DJ mOma (Rivington Hotel/Viktor & Spoils). Expect appearances from special invited guests, along with refreshments and shopping from the vendors located within Dekalb Market.

HOW MUCH: Free before 6:00 p.m., $5 after.

 

WHAT: The Seaside Summer Music Series Presents: The Jacksons

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 12, show starts at 7:30 p.m., Coney Island, West 21st Street and Surf Avenue

WHY GO: This performance marks the first time that the legendary musical family has played in Brooklyn and the first-ever Saturday night show in the 34-year history of the concerts.

HOW MUCH: Free

 

WHAT: Target Brooklyn Community Garden Presents Free Yoga in the Garden

WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, August 12, 9:30 a.m., at 931 Bedford Avenue (between Willoughby and Dekalb)

WHY GO: Led by a licensed instructor, yoga is a great way to stay fit and attain peace, all in an outdoor environment with a wonderful group of people.
