BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — For months, questions about where Eric Adams lives have thrown Bed-Stuy into into the center of politics headlines as New Yorkers debate whether the likely next mayor actually lives in his Brooklyn apartment.

The case was no different leading up to Election Day — when journalists with Curbed staked out the Lafayette Avenue townhouse.

Seven reporters with the outlet took shifts monitoring the borough president's basement apartment overnight last Monday through Thursday to see if Adams actually spent time at the residence (Spoiler alert: he did! Twice.)

The stake out comes after reports from THE CITY and Politico that Adams might actually live in New Jersey given tax documents where he listed zero days of "personal use" at the Bed-Stuy property, which he gave a tour of over the summer as skepticism surfaced.

The Curbed investigation is perhaps more noteworthy though, for what happened both times Adams stopped by the apartment.

In one visit, when he showed up at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday, Adams parked illegally, had his car towed and then drove on the sidewalk to avoid a traffic jam, according to the report.

Then, when he returned after the mayoral debate, the Democratic nominee spotted the reporters, yelling “Oh, shit! I caught you! I caught you!” at their car.

Adams told Curbed that he thought he would be out of the house early enough that his illegally-parked car wouldn't be a problem and "in reflection," "should have just rode [his] bike."
