Update: Man Assaults Cop Inside Gates Ave. Subway Station

The police officer was knocked down a flight of stairs and sustained two broken ankles.

 

Update: Saturday, September 8 11:15 p.m.

Ellison was apprehended and subsequently arrested Saturday evening, stated police. He has been charged with Assault 2 and Theft of Service.

A police officer was knocked down a flight of stairs while trying to apprehend a criminal inside of the Gates Avenue subway station on Friday, police said.

On September 7, at approximately 10:50 a.m. inside the Gates Avenue station, members of the Anti-Crime team for Transit District #33 observed a man entering the subway with a student metro card.

"As police attempted to arrest the suspect, he violently resisted and knocked a female police officer down a flight of stairs," the NYPD stated in a release. As a result, the officer was taken to Wyckoff Hospital where she sustained two broken ankles and a laceration to the head requiring 10 stitches.

The NYPD is asking the public's assistance in locating a man named Michael Elllison, 25. He is black, approximately 6'0, 185 lbs and has a tattoo of the word "Smoove" on the right side of his neck
