Manhole Fire Knocks Out Power To NYCHA Complex: FDNY
The fire also destroyed two cars, said an FDNY spokesperson. Con Edison expects power will be up by 6:30 p.m. for the 58 residents.
BED-STUY, NY — Nearly 60 people at an NYCHA complex are without power after a manhole cover caught fire and destroyed two nearby cars.
The fire erupted at 12:43 p.m. and knocked out power to several NYCHA buildings located at 93 Lewis Ave., according to a fire department spokesperson.
FDNY personnel from two fire engines and two trucks had the one-alarm fire mostly under control within three hours, said the spokesperson at 3:30 p.m.

A Con Edison spokesman told Patch that power should be up for the 58 residents by 6:30 p.m.
“We have crews and a supervisor on scene,” said the Con Edison spokesman. “Our people are trying to restore the power."
