Chabad Professionals of Crown Heights Honor Bill Thompson at Reception
Basil Pizza and Wine Bar in Crown Heights becomes the setting for a campaigner's toasts, cheers and well wishes
On Wednesday, January 16, at the Basil Pizza and Wine Bar Party Room, young professionals of the Chabad community in Crown Heights hosted an evening in support of former New York City Comptroller and New York City mayoral candidate Bill Thompson.
The private affair was hosted by Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, along with event committee members Mendel Pershin, Yossi Rapoport and Mendy Margolin.
Also in attendance were Frank Seddio, the new chairman of the Kings County Democratic Party, District Leader Jesse Hamilton and NYS Senator Eric Adams' Chief of Staff Ingrid Lewis-Martin.

Thompson, a Bed-Stuy native, gave a speech about his family's history in the Chabad community of Crown Heights, where his father served as city councilmember and a state senator during the 1960s.
He also spoke of his family's longtime support of Israel, his plan for bringing increased support for the small businesses of New York City, and his committment to keeping the crime levels down in the city.

"I'm running to be mayor of the city of New York," said Thompson. "I am going to be a mayor that will make sure we're never a city that isn't safe.
"We need to add more police officers again. We're below 35,000 officers for the first time in 30 years. Budgets are tight right now. But how can we not make sure we that we stay the safest big city in America? It has changed the way we live and we can't go back to those rough days.
"So that's one of the things I'm committed to as the next mayor of the City of New York."
