Pesticides Will Rain Down On Bed-Stuy's Pesky Mosquitos
Mosquitos, be gone. The city will spray pesticides across parts of Brooklyn, including much of Bed-Stuy, this week to clear the pesky bugs.
BED-STUY, NY — New York City is continuing its war against its itchiest pest as West Nile season drags on.
On Thursday, the city's Health department will spray pesticides using trucks through some of Bed-Stuy, including parts of the 11205, 11206 and 11216 zip codes.
Low concentrations of Anvil 10+10, Duet and Merus 3 will spray between 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, according to the department.

Locals were encouraged to stay inside as much as possible during the window, especially those with respiratory conditions or sensitivities to pesticides.
After being outside, locals should wash skin and clothes exposed pesticides and wash fruits and vegetables with water.

More mosquitos tested positive for West Nile Virus in Brooklyn than in Manhattan and the Bronx.
City authorities tested groups of mosquitos from 90 different locations citywide and found 1,089 groups of disease-ridden bugs.
Some 218 of those, or 20 percent, came from Brooklyn, city data show.
West Nile season in New York City is generally between May and October — and so far this year, the city has seen 16 cases of West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease and Fever, city data show.
Brooklyn accounted for both of the city's West Nile Fever cases, but had no cases of West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease.
