Police Blotter: Man Dies from Stab Wounds to Face and Neck

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 81st Precinct

The 81st Police Precinct is reporting a 34 percent decrease in crime (29 incidents versus 44 incidents) for the week of August 29 - September 4, 2011, compared to this same time period in 2010. There is a reported 19 percent decrease in crime for the month (115 incidents, versus 142 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year. And crime year to date is up 7 percent overall (944 incidents versus 884 incidents), compared to 2010.

A Stabbing:

On Sunday, September 4, at approximately 5:30am, a 27-year-old man was stabbed in front of 571 Madison Street. The man was at a family party on the second floor at the Madison address when he started arguing with another man at the party. The two left the party to walk outside where the argument  escalated. Neighbors who heard the argument alerted police. Upon arrival, police found the man laying outside on the ground, unresponsive, with stab wounds to his face, neck and arm. He was taken to Woodhull hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have a description of the suspect. Also, police recovered the knife outside of Putnam and Lewis Avenue, in the vicinity of the suspects home. Police are looking for the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

Two Shootings:

Wednesday, September 7, at approximately 9:59am, a man, approximately 30 years old, was shot multiple times while standing at a bustop near the corner of Ralph Avenue and Fulton Street. According to witnesses, the man was standing at the bus stop, when an unknown black male, approximately 6', in a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans walked up to the victim and shot him. Upon arriving, officers observed the male lying in the street with gunshot wounds to his head and upper left bicep. The victim is in critical condition but is expected to survive. Police have not uncovered a motive, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, September 12, at approximately 6:15pm, several residents called to report shots fired at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard. Officers arrived on the scene to find bullet holes in a parked grey Chevy Camaro. No one was in the car, and no one was reported injured or hit.

Two Robberies:

On Thursday, September 8, at approximately 12:30am, a man reported a robbery of his iPod. He said he was walking past 295 Stuyvesant Avenue when someone walked up to him from behind and hit him in the back of the head. He fell forward and hit his head on the sidewalk, at which time the perpetrator grabbed his iPod out of his hand and fled. The victim said he never caught a description of the suspect.

On Friday, September 9, at approximately 12:25am, a 46-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint of $700 and his vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Caravan, while standing outside of his car in front of 281 Van Buren Street. The victim reported, he was standing right outside of his car when a black male, approximately 5’5 walked up to him and started a conversation. Then another man, approximately 5'10, walked up to him from behind, pointed a gun at him and demanded every he had. He handed over $700 in cash from his pocket and the keys to his car. The men fled the scene in an unknown direction with his car. The investigation is ongoing.
