BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Live music, food trucks and family fun are headed to Fulton Park this weekend to celebrate 50 years of Stuyvesant Heights' historic district.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration will kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m. and last until 7 p.m. in the park along Chauncey Street.

It will come a few days after the official 50th anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 14, five decades since the southern section of Bed-Stuy was designated as a historic district in 1971.

The Stuyvesant Heights historic district stretches from Tompkins Avenue to Stuyvesant Avenue between Macon and Decatur streets and between Lewis Avenue and Stuyvesant Avenue between Macon and Chauncey, according to its map with the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

The district has over 430 structures built over a fifty-year period, including a few early freestanding homes from the 1860s and 1870s, brick and brownstone row houses built in the 1870s and 1880s and four-story apartment houses built between 1888 and 1903, according to the Historic Districts Council.
