Watch: NYPD Officers Slam Vehicle Into Brooklyn Man

Hashim Haynes, 26, claims he was stopped and frisked by the officers, plowed down by their vehicle, then frisked again on the pavement.

East New York resident Hashim Haynes, 26, has filed a civil-rights lawsuit against the city in Brooklyn federal court, alleging he was wrongly stopped and frisked by plainclothes officers while walking home late one night — then run over by their unmarked police vehicle.

New surveillance video released by the New York Daily News appears to support many of his claims.

In the video, recorded on the night of Aug. 21, the officers appear to call Haynes over to their vehicle as he’s walking along the sidewalk. They exit the vehicle, pat him down for a good while, then return to their vehicle. Then, when Haynes walks around in front of the vehicle — to photograph its front license plate number, he claims — the officer driving the vehicle steps on the gas, hitting Haynes.

As Haynes lays crumpled on the pavement, the officers appear to lean over and pat him down once again.

According to the Daily News:

“As he lay on the ground, one cop searched Haynes’ pockets. The cops remained at the scene until an ambulance arrived, but did not accompany Haynes to Brookdale University Hospital. He was not arrested or issued a summons.”

Haynes, who works as a community assistant for the city’s own Taxi & Limousine Commission, said in an interview with the Daily News that he believes he was initially stopped on Elton Street simply because he’s black.

Patch reached out to the NYPD by phone and email for comment on the videotaped incident, but did not immediately hear back.
