Back-to-School, Post-Irene

It's 5 things you need to know Tuesday.

1. Back to school: submit your photos!

On Tuesday, Bedford Central students start school (Katonah-Lewisboro kids return to their classrooms Wednesday. Fox Lane freshmen are oriented this morning, with the rest of students arriving at 11:30 a.m. I'm preparing myself to be more patient with my children while they adjust to new routines and with traffic that slows until bus routes are solidified. In the meantime, we'll be reporting on the first days of school in local districts and posting galleries of your kids on their first day. Lisa Douglas of North Salem and Peter Michaelis of Bedford face each other in a primary on Sept. 13 for the for the Republican line in the race for the District 2 seat on the county board of legislators. We have collected your questions, added a few of our own and submitted them to the candidates. Check back Thursday and Friday for Patch Q & A's with the candidates.

3. Break a leg for Hairspray auditions

Children 12 and over, teens and adults are welcome to audition for the Bedford Community Theatre's production of Hairspray. Performances November 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20. for details on auditions, which begin tonight at 5 p.m.

4. Meet new women at civic club gathering

I've met many members of the —what an inspiring group. This Thursday, Sept. 8, the member will host their first “Get-To-Know-Us” coffee hour, an opportunity for prospective members to learn about the WCCK. Chairpersons will provide information about their committees, programs, and activities. The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m., if you'd like to go, let Mary Jo know by calling 666-2064.

5. Power restored: what's next?

Utility companies are reporting that all customers within the town of Bedford have had their power restored. Over the weekend, we covered to investigate the companies' response to the tropical storm. Now that power is restored, many are examining storm damage and filing claims and calling contractors to do repairs. I'd love to hear from you about your experience.
