1. The Food Network and you
Food Network Star, the Food Network’s culinary reality series, is currently casting for season 8 and invites anyone interested in hosting their own cooking show to an open casting call in New York City on Friday Aug. 5. Chefs, home cooks, caterers or culinary enthusiasts who are interested in hosting their own cooking show on Food Network are encouraged to attend. For more information, click here.
2. Photo contest deadline
The Katonah Village Library 2011 Teen Photo Contest, "YOU ARE HERE" submission deadline is tomorrow, Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. This contest is open to ages 10-18. Send submissions to katref@wlsmail.org; acceptable formats are jpeg, gif, pdf and tiff. The Photo Gallery is open, click here to see some unbelievable shots by talented local teens. Lots of prizes to be awarded.

3. Summer Training Offered to Volunteer Firefighters
In an effort to help build the ranks of local volunteer fire departments, the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services is offering summer sessions for firefighter training to accommodate recruits who are away at college in the spring and fall or who may have other commitments during the year.

4. Call for Bedford Central committee volunteers
The Bedford Central School District this week announced an “All Call” for membership on the district’s citizen advisory committees. If you have a willingness to volunteer and possess interest, experience, and expertise in a particular area, consider applying. The district said the application is simple. For more information and to obtain an application please visit the district’s website. Applicants will need to indicate for which committee they are applying directly on the application.
