Bedford Police Blotter: a Bomb Scare, a Stolen Blu-Ray and a Sick Racoon

Here's a roundup of activity as reported by Bedford's finest for June 3 - June 8.

Bomb scare evacuates Bedford Hills Stores

At 4 p.m. on June 6, police were called to Marshall's Shoe Store in the shopping plaza at 731 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. A Marshall's employee reported a bomb threat from a male telephone caller. Two police units were dispatched,  including patrol and detective command,  along with the Bedford Hills Fire Department and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety. Some stores were evacuated, while a bomb squad investigated the scene. No bombs or explosive devices were found and all employees and shoppers were let back into the stores. The investigation is ongoing.

 June 3

At 5:37 p.m. police were called to Glenwood Lane in Katonah for a reported larceny, which allegedly occurred between 10 p.m. on the June 2 and 4 p.m. on June 3 at the residence. Two rings were reported missing. The resident called back to report the rings were found in the laundry basket.

At 4:44 p.m. residents of Old Deer Park Road called police with a report of a sick raccoon. The investigation revealed that the sick animal had contact with the resident's dog. The officers destroyed the animal, which was subsequently picked up by the Westchester County Department of Health for testing.

At 6:12 p.m. police were called to Bedford Memorial Park at 65 Greenwich Road in Bedford for a dispute between  two  baseball coaches at the park. There were no physical injuries and no charges filed.

June 4

At 7:46 a.m. residents of a home on Guard Hill Road in Bedford Hills called with a report of an uncooperative child. The parents reported to police that  their 18 year- old-daughter would not get in the car. Police mediated the situation.

At 8:36 a.m. police were called to Kelly Circle in Katonah. The resident complained about a confrontation they had while jogging on Croton Lake Road, during which he said a driver yelled at him to get out of the road. The jogger did not want the police to contact the driver and the complaint was unsubstantiated.

At 11:12 a.m. a resident of Cherry Street in Bedford Hills called to report that her  daughter was sitting in front of the house when a driver pulled up and took a picture. They thought it may have  been a photo for a real estate comparison but wanted to report the incident.

June 5

At 7:28 a.m. residents of Croton Lake Road in Bedford Hills reported a damaged mailbox.

At 9:05 a.m. police completed a traffic stop on Katonah Avenue near Parkway. The driver was released with a warning.

At 10:57 a.m. a motor vehicle accident  took place near the intersection of Babbit Road and Church Road in Bedford Hills. There were no reported injuries from the rear-end collision.

At 6:23 p.m. police were called to Roosevelt Drive in Bedford Hills to assist an elderly person who had fallen. 

June 6

At 9:58 a.m. police were called to Pound Ridge Road in Bedford on a report of an erratic driver. The vehicle was  located and the driver stated that he was distracted by his dog jumping around inside of the vehicle.

At 11:58 a.m. police were called to Babbit Road in Bedford Hills for a report of a domestic dispute over the custody of a child. Police attempted to mediate the situation.

June 7

At 12:16 a.m. a suspicious person was reported on Adams Street in Bedford Hills. Police located the the man, a former resident, who said he was taking pictures of the stars.

At 9:14 a.m. a burglary was reported from Twin Lakes Drive in Bedford. The alleged incident happened overnight, when someone entered the residence through a window. The residents were not home and there was no forced entry. The theft included a 52-inch flat screen TV and two blue-ray disc players. The stolen items were valued at $1,287.

At 6:28 p.m. a 37-year-old Mt. Kisco man was arrested for harassment at Haines Road in Bedford Hills. Annunziato Tripodi was charged with harassment in the second degree and was released on $100 bail, returning to court on Thursday, June 10.

At 4:43 p.m. an individual at Bedford Road in Bedford Hills reported a lost license plate.

At 4:37 p.m. police responded to a report of protesters at the Village Green in Bedford. An individual who was distributing anti-Obama literature was advised they were allowed to protest but could not bother pedestrians.

June 8

At 12:31 a.m. residents of Stone Paddock Place in Bedford reported someone yelling outside their home. All was quiet upon the police arrival.

At 9:59 a.m. the owners of Jaymark Jewelers at 284 Katonah Avenue in Katonah reported that a crawlspace door was found in an unfamiliar position. The police checked the premises but nothing unusual was found.

At 1:42 p.m. residents of Field Street in Bedford Hills reported criminal mischief. Their mailbox had been damaged.
