Bedford Police Blotter: A Burglary and a Black Bear Sighting

Here's a round up of police activity from July 8 - July 14.

Youths arrested after trying to throw away the evidence 

On July 8, Bedford police detectives out on patrol in an unmarked car on Crescent Terrace in Bedford Hills saw a car parked on the side of the road. They approached the car and saw a bag thrown out the window. After recovering the bag, and searching the car, they found marijuana in the car. The 17 year-old was charged with a violation, and the 18 year-old was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree. Both are from Bedford Hills.

Erratic driver arrested for driving while impaired by drugs

After observing a car cross both the double yellow lines and the fog line on Bedford Road in Katonah, police stopped Donald Delandri, age 50, of Katonah around 10 p.m. on July 8. After he pulled over, Delandri appeared confused and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to the police. Delandri submitted to field sobriety tests and failed them. He was brought back to the station where drug recognition expert Officer Belantone assisted with further testing. Delandri was arrested for driving while impaired by drugs, released on bail and will appear in town court on July 29.

Police on lookout for drug sale find and arrest man

After receiving information about a potential sale of marijuana in the area, police identified Ryan Ennis as a potential suspect on July 13 around 1 p.m. on Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. The 21-year-old from Ossining, was charged for possessing four ounces of marijuana—criminal possession in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor. He was released without bail pending an appearance in Bedford Town Court on July 22.

JULY 9

A suspicious car was reported to police at 10:59 a.m. on Davids Hill Road in Bedford Hills. The car was gone when the police arrived.

Temple Sharaay Tefila reported someone stuck in the elevator at 12:04 p.m. but the individual had gotten out prior to police arrival.

A fire was reported at 18 Nottingham Road at 2:21 p.m. The small fire was in an air conditioning unit and was put out by the Bedford Hills Fired Department and a fire extinguisher.

A burglary was reported at Partridge Road in Katonah. The resident had left at 6pm the day before and returned at 2:30 p.m. on the July 9 to find missing a large screen T.V. valued at $1,200 . Police are still investigating but say that an unknown person entered through an unlocked door.

JULY 10

A building violation was discovered at 10:28 a.m. at 93 The Farms Road. An employee of the residence was using water in a restricted area during the recent heat wave water restrictions. Police advised the employee, who didn't know there was a restriction, to cease power washing the home. 

A burglar alarm went off at 351 Adams Street at 1:46 p.m. Police found an unlocked garage door but all was secure inside.

JULY 11

Black bear sighting reported at 4:13 p.m. from hikers at Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road. Officer Fiore went to investigated and two hikers said they saw a black bear off in the distance. No further information was available. 

JULY 12

An elderly person needing assistance was responded to at 2:09 a.m. at 208 Harris Street in Bedford Hills.

A "dark house" call was made by police to a resident's home on Greenwich Road in Bedford at 2:32 p.m. Police were checking up on a house while the homeowner was away on vacation.

A lost wallet was reported at 175 Railroald Avenue in Bedford Hills. The wallet contained a driver's license, credit cards ATM cards.

A suspicious car was reported on High Street in Bedford Hills at 9:16 p.m.

JULY 13

Identity theft was reported at 4:12 p.m. from a resident of Bedford. The individual reported that someone used a picture posted on Facebook to post an unwanted personal dating ad, without the individual's permission.

A Noise violation was reported on Babbitt Road for construction at Bedford Hills Elementary School before 8 a.m.

Criminal mischief was reported at 11:57 p.m. on Winding Lane in Bedford Hills. The resident said a car parked in the driveway was  keyed,  and the damage amounted to $1,500. The case is an ongoing investigation by the police youth officer.

JULY 14

Aggravated Harassment was reported on Bedford Road in Bedford Hills around 9:15 p.m. The resident said that her son's ex girlfriend had been calling the house.

Open burning was reported on Wood Road in Bedford Hills at 10:06 p.m. Police verified that individual had a permit from the county.
