Bedford Police Blotter: A Wrecked Patrol Car and Attempted Thefts at Marshall's Shoe Store

Here's a wrap-up of police activity for June 16 – June 24.

1:49 p.m.  Driving arrest: An officer driving the car equipped with the license plate reader was alerted to  a car driven by 65-year-old Leonidas Marino of Bedford. The officer stopped the car on Bedford Center Road in Bedford Hills. After checking the report with database records at police heaquarters, Marino was arrested and charged with  driving with a suspended license and registration. He was released on $100 bail and due to appear on Bedford Town Court the following week.

4:37 p.m. Harassing phone calls were reported from a Pinesbridge Road resident in Bedford Hills. The resident reported that they won a $50,000 lottery prize and to claim the prize would have to wire a smaller amount of money to Western Union.  The resident ended the call and reported to police. The police contacted Western Union as a follow up.

5:46 p.m. Tension between babysitter and employer is reported from Captain Theale Road. An employee of the resident complained that their employer wanted them to work more hours than they wanted to. The officer advised the employee to contact the New York State Department of Labor for assistance in securing any owed wages. Later  that week,  the same employee phoned police again and the police assisted her in removing her belongings and returning to her home in Mt. Vernon.

June 17

7:10 a.m. A traffic light was reported malfunctioning on Cross River Road in Katonah. Officers put up flares, and notified the state Department of Transportation. Officers monitored the roads while the repairs were made.

8:53a.m. A life alert system was tested at a home on Bedford Road, Apartment  208. Residents notified the police that a test would trigger a 911 call.

9:55 a.m. Rocks thrown at an aluminum awning at Valley Road in Katonah. The resident reports that no damage was done.

1:11 p.m. A dog was reported having a seizure at a home on Huntville Road in Katonah. The injured dog was taken to Fine Animal Hospital.

June 18

6:13 a.m. A DWAI arrest was made on Clark Road in Bedford. Officers found a 19-year-old male asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle. After rousing the man, officers conducted field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was taken to police headquarters and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of marijuana.

4:43 p.m. A larceny was reported from Marshall's Shoe Store at 727 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. The shopper reported a stolen purse, worth $25, which contained two bank cards,  two credit cards,  $102 in cash and a and driver's license. Nothing has been recovered at this time.

7:50 p.m. House break-in reported from a Penwood Road resident in Bedford Corners. The resident said that a rear patio window was broken at residence,  but there was no apparent  entry into the home.

June 19

10:36 p.m.  Aggressive solicitors reported from Hickory Lane in Bedford. The resident complained of solicitors coming to her door with educational textbooks while a male companion sat in the car. Police determined that they did have a solicitor's permit.

 5:43 p.m. Car accident reported at Depot Plaza Bedford Hills. An individual reported that a vehicle had rolled into and struck his car in Lot 1 in Katonah. No damage was done.

June 20

1:25 a.m. A patrol car was wrecked on Bedford Road in Katonah after a one-car accident. An officer was dispatched while on her way to investigate a domestic incident. While en route, the officer struck a tree near. She was taken Westchester County Medical Center by the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps where she was treated and released. The police are investigating the accident, which involved the patrol car equipped with the licensed plate reader,  a high-tech device that aids police in flagging cars tagged with violations. The LPR is insured but it could take up to a month to repair it and mount it on a new vehicle.

3:05 p.m. Possible gunshots reported from Beaver Dam Road in Katonah. It was  determined that an individual set off fireworks. They were advised that fireworks were illegal and given a warning. 

June 21

1:42 p.m. A brush fire was reported on Bedford Road. The fire was located by Shop Rite and extinguished by the Bedford Hills Fire Department.

10:27 a.m. Scrap metal reported stolen from Katonah Elementary School. This was the latest in a series of incidents at the repair garage. Police are working with school employees to do more frequent checks and also to store the metal more securely.

8:50 a.m. A suspicious male was reported filming from a Pound Ridge Road resident.  The caller observed a male filming in the Village Green area. Police determined he was doing work for a the Houlihan Lawrence  real estate agency website.

June 22

8:03 a.m. Graffiti was spraypainted on the side of a van parked on Adams Street in Bedford Hills. Bell Office Furniture employees reported the criminal mischief. The open investigation is being conducted by detectives.

1:29 p.m. A tree fell across Loop Road in Bedford. Police notified the highway department.

June 23

 2:25 p.m. A bad check bounced and was reported by Bedford Village Pastry at 426 Old Post Road in Bedford. The customer was contacted and they said there was a problem with their bank account; they later returned to the store to make payment.

9:35 p.m. A homeowner was locked out of their home on New Street in Katonah. Police assisted the resident in getting back into their house.

June 24

3:31 An attempted shoe robbery took place at Marshall's Shoe Store in Bedford Hills. Police arrested  40-year-old Evan Hicks of Mt. Kisco for attempted petty larceny. Hicks, an employee of the store, allegedly attempted to steal two pairs of sandals. Security had him in custody when police arrived. Hicks was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in town court on July 8.

9:45 a.m. Identity theft was reported from Grove Road in Bedford. The resident reported that someone attempted to use her card for a purchase in the amount of $900. The resident got a replacement card after reporting the incident.

7:09 p.m. A branch fell on a car on Winding Lane in Bedford Hills. A resident reported that a tree had caused damage to her vehicle.
