Bedford Police Blotter: Underage drinking and a Recovered Stolen Taxi

July 4
Stolen taxi recovered after the July 4 arrest of 30-year-old Edward Henry Vargas of Danbury, CT. Police flagged Vargas shortly after midnight for a traffic stop on Valley Road in Katonah, near St. Mary's Church. After running the registration number on the car through police records, the officer found that the taxi had been stolen in the town of New Castle two days prior. Vargas was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operation of a car, and placed into custody to be taken to Westchester County Jail, pending an appearance in Bedford Town Court.
Bedford Police comply with Homeland Security monitoring of local rail and storage factilities. The department reports that they were mandated to increase their inspections for a specified amount of time, and conducted routine checks of all train stations and self storage facilities in town multiple times last week.

Holiday fireworks warnings last weekend, after police received calls from Shady Brook Lane—which turned out to be a road flare, Rome Avenue, where kids were shooting bottle rockets, and West View Court, where the residents were cleaning up a small display already launched.
Fishing on private property reported at 7:53 p.m. near Lakeview Lane. A resident in Bedford Village, saw two people fishing on private property near Twin Lakes drive. The anglers had left by the time police arrived.

Dogs barking reported on East Field Drive in Bedford. The dogs were brought in.
911 wrong number call from Nottingham Road in Bedford Hills at 5:10 p.m. A man reported that he misdialed and did not mean to make an emergency call.
A vehicle repossessed at 1:01 a.m. on Oak Road in Katonah.
Towing dispute between a towing company operator from New Rochelle, and a customer on Plainfield Avenue in Bedford Hills. After the tow, the operator tried to process the payment on the customer's credit card but it was denied. The police advised him that it was a civil complaint.
Aggravated harassment reported at a real estate office in Bedford Hills. An employee reports that she received harassing telephone calls. The police advised her to get records from the phone company.
Handicapped parking permit lost at 2:28 p.m. on Old Wagon Road in Bedford Hills.
No money for taxi reported at 6:03 p.m. on Rustling Lane in Bedford. A worker completing a job at a residence asked a young resident of the home to call a taxi; when it arrived, neither the worker nor the youth had money to pay for it. Police helped straighten the matter out.
Underage drinking reported at 11:46 p.m. in public on Bedford Road. Police observed Jonathan Crigg from Mystic Beach, NY drinking in public and issued an appearance ticket for court on July 22.
Driving arrest on South Bedford Road in Bedford Hills, near Sarles Street. The arrest occurred following a three-car accident that happened at around 12:15 p.m. The Mt. Kisco police reported the accident, and upon investigation, discovered that the driver, 30-year-old Ulyses Amador from Mt. Kisco, was operating the car with no license. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Amador was released on $100 bail pending a July 22 appearance in Bedford Town Court.
Knocked-off mailbox reported at 1:12 p.m. on Valley Road in Katonah.
Door-to-door soliciting reported at 8:20 a.m. on Franklin Avenue.
Unattended dog in hot car reported at 6:53 p.m. on High Street in Katonah. The owners, who said they were checking on the dog frequently, were found.
