Eight Injured in Car Accident on Old Post Road, Alleged Metal Thieves Arraigned in Bedford

Eight local residents suffered non-life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning after a two-car crash on Old Post Road near Crusher Road in Bedford.

The injured, all residents of Bedford, were in the car that was hit. They included five children—one 12-year-old and four 11 year-olds—and two males, one 43 and one 44-year-old. The accident victims were taken to Northern Westchester Hospital and to the Westchester County Medical center for arm, leg and head injuries. None was seriously injuried.

The accident happened at around midnight Saturday when Christopher Nemnom, the driver and sole passenger of a Honda CRV southbound on Route 22, crossed the double yellow line and collided with the victim's Honda Pilot.

Nemnom was found to be driving without a license. He was arrested on July 31 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a car and failure to keep right. He was released without bail pending an appearance in town court.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to police.

Alleged metal thieves arraigned in Bedford

A Mahopac man and a Shrub Oak man have been charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, after allegedly stripping metal from an abandoned home on Route 139 in Somers.

State police say they caught John J. O’Brien III of Shurb Oak and Christopher J. Riechers actively taking metal pipes and wired from a building on the property that they intended to scrap for money.

Both men were arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court and have been remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail. They are scheduled to reappear in the Town of Somers Court on Monday August 8 at 5:30 PM.
