Experience Autumn at Westmoreland Sanctuary

October Programs Explore Nature, Creativity & Community

Westmoreland Sanctuary is welcoming the vibrant colors and crisp air of autumn with an exciting and diverse line up of engaging seasonal programming this October. Nature lovers of all ages and levels of experience and knowledge are invited to explore the wonders of the fall season through hands-on workshops, guided hikes, exciting programs and volunteer sessions.

Floral Design Workshop Series: Ease into Fall with Wildflowers
Thursday, October 9 | 7:00 – 9:00 PM | $65 per participant | Ages: Adult program
Don’t be sad that summer is over, celebrate the beauty of the changing seasons instead! Join us for a hands-on experience where you’ll create a stunning, nature-inspired floral arrangement using sustainable and locally sourced materials. Whether you're a seasoned floral designer or just looking for a relaxing way to connect with nature, this workshop is the perfect way to welcome the new season with creativity and intention. Best of all, you’ll take home your own beautiful arrangement to enjoy!

Haunted Halloween Programs & Night Hike
Saturday, October 11 | 5:30 – 7:30 PM | $15 per participant | Ages: Recommended for ages 4+
Celebrate the spooky season with a family-friendly evening of nature and Halloween fun! Enjoy a pizza dinner in the Westmoreland Nature Center, meet live insects and reptiles (if you dare!), and embark on a guided night hike through the darkened forest trails. Costumes are encouraged!

Junior Animal Care Session
Friday, October 11 | 10:00 – 11:30 AM | $20 per participant | Ages: Recommended for ages 7+
Join us at Westmoreland Sanctuary for an exciting hands-on program where kids become animal caretakers for a day. This fun and interactive experience gives children the opportunity to learn what it takes to care for the different animals housed at Westmoreland’s Nature Center and ultimately gain a connection with and a deeper appreciation for animals and nature.

Fall Foliage Hike
Monday, October 13 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | $10 per participant | Ages: All ages
Join us for a guided walk through the vibrant autumn woods with Naturalist Alice Roosevelt. Together, we’ll explore the amazing colors of the season and learn the science behind why leaves change in the fall. Alice will share fun facts about how the natural world gets ready for winter, and you’ll have time to enjoy the crisp air, colorful leaves, and peaceful beauty of the Sanctuary.

Conservation Volunteer Session
Monday, October 13 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Free | Ages: All ages
A hands-on opportunity for community members to connect with nature while making a positive environmental impact. Volunteers assist with invasive species removal, habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and other vital conservation efforts. These sessions not only support local ecosystems but also provide a chance to learn about native wildlife and sustainable land management. Whether you're a seasoned conservationist or a first-time volunteer, your help makes a meaningful difference.

About Westmoreland Sanctuary
Westmoreland Sanctuary is a nonprofit nature center and wildlife preserve in Mount Kisco, NY, dedicated to conserving land for public use, education, and enjoyment. Open year-round, it features 8.5 miles of trails across 670 acres of forest, fields, and wetlands. The Sanctuary offers programs for all ages, including school trips, internships, volunteer opportunities, and seasonal workshops.
