Letter to the Editor: Where's Our Congresswoman?
Len Martello of Bedford Hills writes about getting in touch with Rep. Nan Hayworth.

With Congress not in session and our elected officials back home, it seems the perfect opportunity to connect with constituents, especially during these turbulent times. Our Congresswoman, Nan Hayworth (NY-19) returned home last Monday, August 1, 2011. Is she holding public forums or town hall meetings to receive feedback on the job she and the 112th Congress are doing so far this year?
A call to her office yesterday provided me the following answer: "No, but you will soon be receiving a mailing with her planned dates for the Fall."
Is she kidding?!? Congress is on break during one of our worst economic crises, from debt ceiling debacle, to the S&P downgrade nonsense, to this week's Wall Street plunge...but our Congresswoman is not going out to meet with her constituents! Who is this legislator representing?
I was also informed that she would be accepting private appointments in her office locations (Somers, Fishkill, Goshen). If she won't come to the people....well...I guess we'll have to do the work to find her. But, it seems much more efficient to meet with large sections of her constituency than scheduling us one at a time. She may find herself very busy if we all start calling with appointment requests.
What is the Congresswoman doing with her time off? It's not like Congress was busy creating any jobs, as promised in the last election cycle.
