Home plate got a workout on Thursday June 24th at Town Park during the
Majors Championships.  Runners slid, strode, and trotted over the plate
a total of 33 times between 8PM and 10PM.  The game had it all: six lead
changes, a Grand Slam over the fence, multiple runners thrown out
stealing, and a triple play.  Well, not the last one, but it would not
have been out of place in this back and forth battle.

The first place Marlins took on the third place Twins on a beautiful
summer evening.  By the start of the third inning, the game was a pitcher's
duel between Mike Begley of the Twins and Justin Drpich of the Marlins.
The score stood at 1-0 Marlins.  Drpich had only allowed 2 baserunners
to Begley's 4 in their two innings apiece.  The Marlins bats came to
life in the bottom of the 3rd with a double and two walks loading the
bases.  Mark McMullen blasted a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence for
a Grand Slam. The Marlins tacked on 2 more runs on a pair of singles and
a few Twins errors to make it 7-2 Marlins.  The Twins ended the inning
with catcher Matt Palacio throwing out a runner stealing second.

The Twins answered back in the top of the fourth with a 5-run 2-out
rally sparked by a 2 RBI triple to right field by Adam Kirker.  Matt
Palacio drove in the next run and Mike Begley brought in two more with a
single up the middle.  The Twins held the score tied 7-7 in the bottom
of the fourth behind a 3-strikeout effort by pitcher JT Ennis.

In the top of the 5th, the Twins JT Ennis reached base on an error and
Mark Machado drove him home on a long single.  Joe LaSorsa got a single
and Adam Kirker drove a double to the left field wall, scoring both
baserunners.  Griffin Cummings drove in Kirker with a hard single up the
middle.  Mike Begley drive Cummings in with a double.  Begley then stole
3rd and home to make the score 13-7 Twins.

The Marlins roared right back in the bottom of the 5th.  Kyle St. Denis
led off with a screaming double down the third base line.  Teddy
Laquidara singled over the second baseman's head.  The Twins got the
next two batters out on a grounder and a strikeout and were looking to get
another scoreless inning.  The Marlins had other ideas, with Max Rappy
ripping a ball to right field to score both baserunners.  Connor
Keneally and Sean Butler walked to load the bases.  Justin Drpich smacked
another ball to right field, scoring 2 more.  Mike Palmesi doubled in
another pair of runs and then stole 3rd and home to make the score 14-13
Marlins.  Joe LaSorsa ended the inning catching a fly ball to center off
the bat of Kyle St. Denis, the Marlin who started off the inning.

Not to be outdone, the Twins came back strong in the top of the 6th,
getting their first four batters on base and scoring with 2 walks and 2
singles. The Marlins second baseman Connor Keneally ranged deep in the
grass to grab a hard grounder, fielding it to first for an out.  The
Twins drove in 3 more runs while making the second out. Marlins pitcher
Max Rappy ended the inning on a 3 pitch strikeout.  Score 19-14 Twins.

The Marlins' Teddy Laquidara opened the bottom of the sixth  with a
single between SS and third.  Twins third baseman JT Ennis and second
baseman Tom Alfredo combined for the first out on a fielder's choice
getting the lead runner.  Catcher Griffin Cummings threw a bullet to SS
Mike Begley to get the runner stealing second.  Twins pitcher Matt
Palacio lost the strike zone for a few batters, walking the bases
loaded.  He found his mojo again, getting the final out on a strikeout.
Final score Twins 19 - Marlins 14.
