Local Photographer Featured in WAG Magazine

The Westchester monthly magazine showcases the talents of Lisa Martinez Cohen, photographer and South Salem resident.

Residents in the Katonah-Lewisboro area may know Lisa Cohen as a friend and fellow parent in the school district. But many may not know her as someone who travels annually to Colorado to photograph horses or as an artist whose work has been featured in the Bedford art show and galleries in Westchester County.

Readers of WAG, a lifestyle magazine for Westchester and Fairfield Counties, will learn more about Cohen, as writer—and South Salem neighbor—Martha Handler introduces "the fascinating woman behind the lens" in the April 2013 issue.

Handler details Cohen's upbringing in New Rochelle and describes how being raised by her mother and grandmother—also a photograher, who worked in an American factory after immigrating from Czechoslovakia—inspired her to pick up her own camera.

"My dream was to be a photographer for National Geographic and travel the world," she told Handler. But her family had other hopes for her, and Cohen went on to attend American University and Boston College Law School. It was a legal project with a historical photo archive that got her behind the camera again, Handler writes.

In recent years, Cohen has photographed horses as far away as Colorado and as close as Pawling, NY.
