Updated: Overturned Truck Temporarily Closes Route 121

Route 121 has been re-opened to traffic.

Updated, 2:45 p.m.

Route 121 is now open to traffic.

The truck that had previously turned over on its side has now been righted, said Peter Lazaro, Bedford Fire Department's Second Assistant Fire Chief. "It was likely wet road conditions," he said. "It was slippery and we felt it going out to respond to the scene."

Route 121 is temporarily closed between Pea Pond Road and Upper Hook Road in Bedford for an accident investigation.

Around 11:15 a.m. a driver of a dumptruck lost control of his vehicle, which then flipped on its side on Route 121, say Bedford police. Police officers responded to the scene, along with the Bedford Fire Department, the Pound Ridge Fire Department and the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

By 11:45 a.m. the driver had been extricated from the truck and was taken to the Westchester Medical Center by the Bedford Fire Department. The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

Around 12:15 p.m. the town of Bedford sent out a traffic alert via the Nixle alert system, informing residents of the detour.

Authorities conducting the investigation anticipate re-opening the road by late afternoon.
