1. Beginning gardeners welcome

It's finally starting to feel like spring and many are getting their green thumb going. For those who have yet to learn how to use their green thumb, a "learn-by-doing" educational gardening series designed with the novice gardener in mind is going on at Bedford Audubon. Topics include: seed starting, seedling management, dividing and transplanting of native herbaceous material. for details.

2. Run for the Hills Re-cap

The Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association outdid themselves and hosted a road race Saturday which drew more than double the number of runners from last year's inaugural run. Check back later today for a full race re-cap with photos and video. 

3. April is National Poetry Month

And there are more than a few local events to commemorate the month. The Friends of the Bedford Free Library is sponsoring it's fifth annual poetry contest. for details. On April 10, the Katonah Village Library will host noted critic and teacher, Alexander Neubauer who will read his book Poetry in Person. for details. 4. "This is Spinal Tap" screening with Q & A with Dave Barry

Dave Barry—humorist, novelist, newspaperman and musician—was born in Armonk and went to Pleasantville High School and is returning home to host a screening of one of his favorite movies (and mine), This is Spinal Tap. It all takes place Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. at Jacob Burns. You just may laugh for two hours straight. for details.

5. Your chance to name a snake

Staff members at the Bronx Zoo are getting close to choosing a name for the famous Egyptian cobra recovered last week. Suggestions will be accepted until 1 p.m. Starting at 3 p.m. the public can vote on the final five suggestions, before officials pick a winner Thursday. Click here to submit an idea.
