Police Identify Man Killed In Early Tuesday Morning I-684 Crash

His 2021 Kia Sportage struck a 1995 International Harvester tractor-trailer parked south of the Bedford rest area.

BEDFORD, NY — Officials have identified the Putnam County man killed in a tragic interstate highway crash.

The New York State Police have been investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place on I-684 on Tuesday, in the town of Bedford.

Around 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, 54-year-old Howard I. Zaibel, of Brewster, was driving a 2021 Kia Sportage on I-684 southbound, when police say they don't yet know why his car left the roadway. His vehicle struck a 1995 International Harvester tractor-trailer parked just south of the Bedford rest area.

Zaibel was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
