WiFi Access, Power Update, Solar Light Indoors

It's 5 things you need to know Thursday.

1. Power update from NYSEG

The 7 p.m. news release from NYSEG Wednesday night stated that "except in areas that remain inaccessible, 75% of customers who were without power yesterday (August 30) are projected to have service restored by late Friday (September 2)." The rest of the field is projected to be restored by late Wednesday (September 7). The restoration of those customers who are in areas that are currently inaccessible will be dependent upon NYSEG’s ability to gain access to assess damage and make repairs. Their outage map now lists estimated times for your street to be restored.

2. WiFi access

3. Light up inside your house with solar lights

We saw this clever idea on the Montville, CT, Patch: Since batteries and flashlights have been scarce around town (though from what we hear, stores are getting more deliveries of product) you can try this neat trick: If you have solar lights that light up and outdoor area, you can bring them in at night to light up your rooms with a safe and free light source. The next morning, stick them back in the ground to re-charge. (Of course, we hope after Thursday this is a non-issue for most folks).

4. Tag sale - buy, sell

The Lions Clubs of Armonk, Bedford Village, Bedford Hills, Mt. Kisco & Pound Ridge are hosting a "Huge Two Day Tag Sale," Saturday & Sunday, September 24 & September 25 from 10:00am - 3:30pm at the Mt. Kisco American Legion. Plan now to pick up some bargains, or to sell your own merchandise at $35 per vendor space for 2 days. For additional information contact Sylvia: 914-709-LION(5466) or

5. Junior League membership

Anyone interested in joining the Junior League of Northern Westchester can email membership@jlnw.org. The community service organization is hosting its "season opener" party on Sept. 27; it's a great time to inquire about joining this 50 + year-old organization affecting change in local towns.
