In the early innings, the A's kept the game close, but eventually the Royals pulled away on the hitting of Hannah Episcopia, Eleni Pappas, Sydney Rappa, Julia Mallon and Carra Henry.

However, that is not where the game was won. Lane Carbaugh, Kaley Mamo, Abby Heath, Kate Sandlund and Julie Ambinder continued to play outstanding defense. The game ended with Ambinder making a spectacular diving catch of a line drive up the middle thwarting the A's attempt at a comeback as the game ended with the bases loaded.
