NORTH SALEM, NY — After an aircraft disappeared from air traffic control radar over North Salem Thursday evening, the race was on to locate the plane, but the aircraft was soon found safe and sound in a hangar at Danbury Airport.

After losing contact with a small aircraft, the Danbury Airport sounded the alarm leading to a massive search where the plane was last in contact with the ground. The search efforts focused on an area in Northern Westchester.

"The town fire department, the police, the New York State police and emergency services are looking for a plane in the vicinity of Finch and Norton," North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas said in a statement released Thursday evening. "There was no crash reported, but the plane came off of radar and was reported to emergency services personnel. The plane has not been found. It may or may not be in the North Salem area, but that’s where it came off of radar."

Lucas added that anyone who has witnessed anything, any crash, to please call 911 and report the location.

However, less than 15 minutes later, it became clear that while the plane was indeed missing (at least as far as those who requested help on the ground in New York were concerned), the aircraft was not in danger of crashing, but instead safe on the ground, which is the best outcome anyone could hope for.
