Troop 154 Scouts Conquer Ice Wall in Adirondacks Adventure
Scouts Conquer 100-Foot Ice Wall in Adirondacks, Showcasing Courage, Skill, and Teamwork in Thrilling Winter Adventure
Keene, NY – This past weekend, Scouts from Troop 154 of Goldens Bridge, which serves the local communities of Katonah and Lewisboro, braved the frigid conditions of the Adirondacks to take on an epic ice climbing challenge in Keene, New York. Armed with ice axes, crampons, and plenty of determination, the Scouts ascended sheer walls of frozen waterfalls, some towering as high as 100 feet.
Among the climbers were Charles S. and Henry D., captured in action as they scaled the glistening ice. With each swing of their axes and careful placement of their feet, they demonstrated courage, resilience, and teamwork—core tenets of Scouting.
“This was an experience like no other,” said Henry D. “At first, it was intimidating, but once I got into a rhythm, it felt incredible to make my way up.”

The expedition, led by experienced guides and Scout leaders, provided a thrilling test of endurance and skill. Scouts learned key techniques such as proper footwork, using ice screws for protection, and reading the ice to find the best route. Safety was paramount, with each climber secured by top-rope belays and guided through the ascent with expert instruction.
“It was amazing to see the Scouts push themselves and support one another,” said a leader from the trip. “Ice climbing demands both physical and mental strength, and these Scouts showed they have what it takes.”
