Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Pumpkin Picking Weekend

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Pumpkin Picking Weekend
Volunteers are needed to help with Muscoot Farm's Annual Pumpkin Picking Weekend, featuring pumpkins, hayrides, and lots of fun. Enthusiastic volunteers will help make the event a success by assisting with the hayrides, guiding families through the pumpkin-picking experience, supervising games and activities, and serving snacks and beverages at the refreshment stand. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to volunteers each day. Perfect for teen volunteers 14+ and groups.
Date: 10/11-10/13 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.; multiple opportunities

STEM Tinkering Nights
The STEM Alliance is looking for volunteers to assist with its annual STEM Tinkering Nights event for elementary school children and their parents. Volunteers oversee a table where guests will create a simple STEM-related craft. No experience is needed—just an enthusiasm for helping young kids explore the joys of science, engineering, and math! This is the perfect opportunity for families and students who want to receive credit for their volunteer service requirements.
Date: 10/15-12/6; multiple opportunities

After-School Reading Buddies
Family Service Society of Yonkers is looking for After-School Reading Buddies to help elementary-aged children at schools in Yonkers to build their reading skills. During these weekly one-on-one sessions, volunteers will be matched with a student and provided with reading materials and worksheets. This is an ideal opportunity for students, retirees and seniors.
Date: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 3-5:30 p.m.; multiple opportunities

Bald Girls Do Lunch is a nonprofit that aims to empower women with alopecia by providing education, personal coaching, mentoring, and social meet-ups to erase the stigma and restore self-confidence. The organization is seeking a volunteer to serve as an Executive Secretary and work directly with the CEO. The Volunteer Executive Secretary will complete tasks such as creating letter templates, invoice forms, and other communications for its constituents and professional consultants. Volunteers must be 25+.

The ideal volunteer has knowledge of general nonprofit work and is experienced in the intricacies of using AI within an environment that must maintain HIPAA compliance to protect the privacy of its service recipients. Volunteers must be 25+.
