Where to Donate Your Stuff, Summer Sales, Serve and Learn
It's 5 things you need to know Friday.

1. Bike on the BRP
Throw the bikes in the car (sounds counter-intuitive, but stay with me here) for "Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway," which resumes this fall for three consecutive Sundays, on September 11, 18 and September 25. Plan now to join in-line skaters, joggers, walkers and those with scooters and strollers. There's no shortage of places to cycle around Bedford, but for a fun change of scene, your family can do the 13.1-mile round-trip after parking at the County Center for $4. It's relatively flat and closed to cars, and you can eat at the awesome in White Plains as a reward for your hard work.

From The Volunteer Center of United Way: "On Friday, September 9, 2011, people from all walks of life will gather to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11. In an action to rekindle the spirit of unity that followed the tragic events of September 11, The Volunteer Center of United Way is inviting area residents to honor local victims and heroes by engaging in service to help build a stronger community." You can sign up today for the event, which will take place Friday, Sept. 9, at the County Center in White Plains, NY, 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., and is open to the public for free. More info here.

Sidewalk sales may be over in Bedford and Katonah but there are plenty of deals to be had as fall merchandise rolls in. in Bedford is having a sale on shirts: if you mention you saw it on Facebook, the first shirt is at regular price, and a second at 50 percent off.
4. Where to donate your stuff
Two great upcoming opportunities: The Lewisboro Library Fair and the St. Matthews Tag Sale. The library accepts donations of books and items for the Fair’s Attic Treasures Tag Sale Sat. Aug. 13, 20 and 27. Toys will only be collected on September 9 & 10. Donations can be dropped off at Onatru Farm (99 Elmwood Road) from 10 am to Noon on these days only. At St. Matthew's, they say to "Empty your basement, attic, garage, or just a closet. Treats and Treasures is coming to St. Matthew's Saturday September 24th from 10 to 4." Visit the links for details.
