Police ID Man Killed In Southern State Parkway Crash

UPDATE: His 2006 Lexus veered off the road and struck two poles at around 5:30 a.m., state police said.

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — State police say a North Babylon man was killed in a single-car crash on the Southern State Parkway in North Bellmore on Wednesday morning.

Joseph Mayer, 62, was driving a 2006 Lexus westbound on the parkway in the area of Exit 25 at around 5:30 a.m., when it left the lane and moved across three lanes of traffic onto the right shoulder striking two poles, according to police.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nassau County Medical Examiner's office, police said.

This crash is still under investigation, according to police.

The state troopers are asking for anyone who saw the crash or anyone with information to call 631-756-3300.
