Bellmore-Merrick Earns 'District Of The Year' Honor
The recognition is for showing a commitment to Advanced Placement courses for its students.

BELLMORE, NY — The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District has received a special distinction.
It has been named a College Board Placement District of the Year.
Bellmore-Merrick was among 12,000 school districts in the U.S. and Canada with high placement on the AP School Honor List. From the list, three AP Districts of the Year were selected-- based on district population: small, medium and large.

Bellmore-Merrick was selected as a medium-sized school district.
"This accolade is a testament to the district's commitment to providing high-quality Advanced Placement programs that not only deliver positive outcomes for students, but also focus on expanding access to advanced education," said Michael Harrington, superintendent of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. “It reflects the dedication of educators, administrators, and students in achieving success in AP courses."

Over the past year, 74% of the Bellmore-Merrick Central high schools graduating class took at least 1 AP Exam during high school, and simultaneously 52% of the graduating class scored a 3 or higher on at least 1 AP Exam during high school.
"This award shows that Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is challenging many students to achieve at the highest levels,” said Trevor Packer, head of the College Board AP Program. "Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District schools are ensuring that all learners have greater access to earning college credit in a wide variety of AP subjects."
