Cops: Trio Caught Cashing Fake Check in Levittown

Three Elmont men were caught by police after attempting to cash a phony check at Citibank in Levittown, police said.

Three Elmont men were quickly caught by police after trying to cash a fake check at a Levittown bank Thursday, according to Nassau County Police.

At 2:58 p.m., police responded to Citibank, located at 3375 Hempstead Turnpike, after they received a call for someone trying to cash a fake check, cops said.

As officers arrived, a bank employee told them that the individuals had just left and were fleeing in a Hyundai, police said.

Officers found the car and conducted a traffic stop on Hempstead Turnpike near Hicksville Road, cops said.

The driver, Vassileva Ubani, 18, and his passengers, Alex Tenadu, 18, and Justin Foe, 20, were taken into custody at the scene, officials said.

Police said they determined that Tenadu was the one who entered the bank and tried to cash the check. He was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Foe was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Ubani also had open Nassau County warrants for robbery and various vehicle and traffic violations.

All three will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
