Democrat Kevin Shakil's 'Boots On Ground' Run For Congress

The 29-year-old Westbury native works as a licensed insurance broker.

WESTBURY, NY — The field is growing to succeed Kathleen Rice in Congress. Kevin Shakil, from Westbury, is among the Democratic candidates campaigning for the June primary in the 4th District.

However, Shakil is the only candidate without political experience.

"We have all these politicians who are going to Washington, and we're expecting different results. If they're not able to make a change on the local level, how will they make a change on the federal level?" Shakil on Monday's "Patch AM" (full video below).

Shakil, 29, an insurance broker, said the country isn't doing enough to move forward in the wake of COVID-19.

Despite a lack of name recognition compared to his challengers, "When you ask people, 'How has you life been impacted in the last 15 years?' with these folks elected, the majority of them say there's no difference at all," he said.
