Girl Scouts of Nassau County Announces Bellmore Resident to Serve on Board of Directors

Girl Scouts of Nassau County announced today that Bellmore resident Gillian Atkinson has been nominated to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County Board of Directors through 2026. Gillian Atkinson was sworn in during the organization’s 59th Annual Meeting, which was held at the Ruth S. Harley University Center on the Adelphi University campus. Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Board of Directors comprises lifelong Girl Scouts, community leaders, and nonprofit and corporative executives who provide leadership, innovation and constant support to the Girl Scouts of Nassau County council.

“Girl Scouts of Nassau County is proud to have such prestigious and accomplished members on its Board of Directors who inspire and empower our Girl Scouts,” said Randell Bynum, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “I am confident that this group of leaders will help cultivate the Girl Scout experience and help fulfill our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”

Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s board of directors provide strategic leadership and work collaboratively to build courage, confidence, and character in Nassau County girls. They will also help raise vital funds to expand access to Girl Scout experiences that socially, academically and emotionally empower girls throughout our community.

Gillian is a Girl Scout alum and the mother of a Girl Scout Cadette. Gillian currently serves as a part of the Senior Leadership Team at Columbia University as the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, within Columbia Health in New York City, N.Y. She is also the Founder of the successful coaching and consulting firm, Cultural Humility, LLC. Gillian works to provide individuals and groups with the tools needed to find comfort having uncomfortable conversations about social identity. Through an empathetic lens, Gillian provides a judgment-free space that allows safe coaching and training procedures to better understand each other as human beings and not just labels. Ms. Atkinson holds an A.S. in Criminal Justice from Nassau Community College, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Nyack College, and a Master of Business Management from Dowling College. She is also a Certified Professional from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP), a Certified Diversity Executive (CDE) by the Institute for Diversity Certification, and an ICF-accredited trained Certified Professional Coach (CPC).
