How Bellmore Coped with Sandy Power Outages
Share your own Sandy story on our open blog.

More than 80 percent of LIPA customers lost power in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and many remained in the dark for several days, with a few waiting well more than a week for power to be restored.
On the one year anniversary of Sandy, we asked readers on our Facebook page how long they were without power and how they coped. Here's a few of the responses:
Sal DelGiudice: Eight days. After day one, when I realized it would take awhile to restore power, I waited on a lengthy hardware store line and purchased a generator...followed by a week of waiting on lengthy gas station lines. Now that I have a generator and experience, I'm ready!
Marior Marion: To my shocking surprise only about a day-day and a half.
Gerry Geary: Eight Days, but been prepared worked out real well for my family. I believe in prepping. Prep for what you know Is going to happen... hurricanes, snowstorms, ice storms and so on. When it comes down to protecting your family, that's in your hands. You are the first responder.
Vicky Seff: 11 days. Had all the preparations done, but the cold (40 degrees in the house) was the worst.
Evan Hoffmeister: Nine days. Coped by gutting the house.
Carol Hall Kenny: Nine days! After being out for four days after Irene we had gotten a generator...best money I ever spent.
