McDonough Visits Martin Avenue School

The assemblyman spoke of the importance of being active in government.

Assemblyman David G. McDonough, R-Merrick, recently visited the sixth grade classes of Martin Avenue Elementary School. The assemblyman was there to promote civic engagement and discuss the role local government plays in the lives of young people.

“When we talk about the youth participation in government, all too often the sentence begins with ‘a lack of' civic engagement,” McDonough said. “I believe it is essential that we promote an interest in government amongst younger generations."

At the end of his visit, McDonough said he was impressed with the future leaders.

“The students quizzed me with a number of insightful and thought-provoking questions. I hope they enjoyed my visit as much as I enjoyed speaking with them,” McDonough said.
