Mepham Named Blue Star School by Financial Literacy Program

For the fifth year in a row, Mepham High School was named a "Blue Star School" by the Working in Support of Education (W!SE) Financial Literacy Program.

At the end of the 2012-13 school year, Mepham was ranked 35 out of 100 schools for the promotion of personal finance education.

The financial program was started at Mepham nine years ago by economics teacher, Gregg Zogby. The material of the program focuses on the skills that students need to be successful and concepts of personal finance are incorporated into the economics course for 12th graders. 

Students are exposed to a variety of personal finance topics such as checking, banking, mortgages and credit cards. 

Zogby said that Mepham's program is beneficial to students as well as their futures. 

“Part of what we do at the high school level is to prepare students for life," Zogby said. "If students are graduating high school with very little foundation in how to manage their personal finances, that sets them up to make some very bad decisions.”
