Mepham Student Named Finalist in International Science Competition
Nina DiFranco will present her research in May.

Nina DiFranco, a senior at Mepham High School, was selected as a finalist in the 2012 International Sustainable World Energy Engineering Environment Competition (I-SWEEP). She will present her project, “Evaluation of Catalytic Activity of Metal Doped and Pure TiO2 Nanopowder Exposed to UV-C” at an I-SWEEP conference on May 4.
DiFranco's project was one of 440 projects selected from more than 70 countries in the world. Her research involved the evaluation of catalysts in a photocatalytic membrane reactor, a new water filtration technology designed to remove viruses from water.
The competition will take place in Houston, Texas.
