Mepham Students Host Night of Action for African Students

Mepham Kares, a student-based global outreach program that aims to support countries in Africa, held its "Night of Action" on Friday.

During the event, students performed songs of hope and read the stories of child soldiers in Africa. Mepham Kares partnered with L.E.A.D. Uganda, an Uganda based organization that identifies former child soldiers and other victims of strife in Uganda and sends them to the best schools.

"Being proud does not give it justice," Principal Michael Harrington said. "This is a cause these kids are passionate about."

To raise funds for L.E.A.D. Uganda, students sold Mepham Kares t-shirts, handmade bracelets, food and beverages during the night.

Dan Rozansky, a junior at Mepham, said that all children should have a chance to live a good life and receive a quality education.

"There is a kid across the world who does not have the same opportunities we have," he said. "Every child deserves it."

Jo Ann DeLauter agreed.

"There is no difference between them and us," she said. "We are all human."

Stu Stein, a history teacher at Mepham, said that he admires his students for their compassion and dedication to children across the world.

"They started this organization in two months,' he said. These kids are committed to this."

Harrington said that he was glad that the Mepham community came together for a significant cause.

"I am so proud of all the teachers and students who brought this night together" he said.
