Mindfulness Matters: Health And Safety Week At Shore Road School

Students started their week with slow breaths and clear minds to welcome Health and Safety Week last week.

BELLMORE, NY — Shore Road School students learned all about the importance of mindfulness last week during Health and Safety Week.

Bellmore Elementary PTA sponsors Health and Safety Week each year, hoping to remind students of the importance of positive choices, officials said.

Special guests, including Northwell Health, stopped by to share internet safety tips.

Students were encouraged to take slow breaths and clear their minds during mindful breathing exercises, teaching them how to stay calm during stressful situations.

Mrs. Neu's sixth-grade students practiced a breathing exercise by using their fingers to trace different shapes and holding their breath, and slowly releasing them. Everyone is different, so they were encouraged to find which method works best for them, school officials said.
