Police ID Motorcyclist Killed In Nassau Hit-And-Run DWI Crash

The driver tried to flee the scene of the crash on foot but was soon apprehended and arrested, police say.

BELLMORE, NY — Police have identified the 63-year-old motorcyclist who died in a hit-and-run DWI crash Sunday night as Daniel Bliss of North Bellmore.

According to Nassau County police, the crash took place on Sunday evening at 11 p.m. in North Bellmore.

Patrick Thompson, 59, was involved in the crash and fled the scene on foot, police said.

He was driving a 2009 Chevrolet westbound on North Jerusalem Road in the vicinity of Sherman Avenue, when he was involved in the collision with a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling eastbound, police said.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Thompson was located nearby by the NCPD's canine unit and was placed under arrest, police said.

Thompson was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident resulting in a fatality, and driving while intoxicated, police said. He will be arraigned today in Hempstead, police said.
