Nassau Legislature Special Election Results: Giangregorio Vs. Miles

The race was to fill Steve Rhoads seat for the 19th Legislative District.

MERRICK, NY — Voters went to polls on Tuesday to decide, who will succeed Steve Rhoads in the Nassau Legislature.

Republican businessman Michael Giangregorio took on Democrat Robert Miles for the 19th Legislative District.

Miles spent the last year working as the Minority Caucus Counsel in Mineola. He also was an attorney for the county's Department of Assessment.

The Nassau County Democrats called Miles an "experienced candidate who will work for tax reforms for Nassau County."

Giangregorio's path to Mineola comes through Manhattan. He's a VP at J.P. Morgan, where he started in 2006 as a senior trader.

His five-point plan to alleviate taxes calls for reducing costs through intergovernmental programs and pursuing grants at the state and federal levels.

The special election was set up after Steve Rhoads defeated John Brooks for the state senate.

The 19th Legislative District represents portions of Merrick, Wantagh, Bellmore, Seaford and Freeport.

Polls close at 9 p.m.
