North Bellmore Firefighter Teams Up with WABC for Fire Safety Campaign
Angelo Catalano of North Bellmore will participate in the announcement of the program.

Angelo Catalano, a North Bellmore firefighter and board president of the Nassau County Firefighters Museum, will team up with WABC to announce a fire prevention and education partnership with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and the county’s firefighters.
The program, which is a part of WABC's ongoing “Operation 7: Save a Life”, was created in the wake of the recent brush fires in Long Island.
WABC will prepare an educational video that will be posted on the station’s website and social media platforms to demonstrate how casual habits such as barbecuing in certain weather conditions to throwing away a cigarette can create an inferno.
A junior fire marshall program will also be launched. It will designate elementary school students as family “fire wardens” to ensure that their parents are aware of the dangers of open flames when weather conditions become dangerous.
Robert McConville, second vice president of the Firemen’s Association of New York, praised the program.
"We may be entering a new and potentially dangerous weather era where our winter was just a precursor to a hot and dry summer," he said. "Increasing fire prevention awareness is a precaution that will pay important dividends down the road.”
